Drowning is a prominent cause of mortality among children and young adults worldwide. About 236,000 individuals die in water-related accidents annually.
Children under the age of five have the greatest risk of drowning, and more than 90% of drowning fatalities occur in poor and medium-income nations. Commonplace actions like taking a shower or filling up a water container, travelling by boat or ferry, or even going fishing, have been related to these tragic losses of life. Drowning is a common cause of death and is usually brought on by severe weather phenomena.
The theme of International Drowning Prevention Day 2022 is "anyone can drown, no one should", as specified by the World Health Organization (WHO).
